“The First Two Rules For Being Creative:

1. There are absolutely no rules.

2. Whenever someone gives you a list of rules, ALWAYS throw out rule #1.”

CREATIVITY is the next GEN-X Trait required or I would put it other words MANDATORY if you want to set yourself apart and take the ladder of Success. No matter, the profession you choose, the more CREATIVE you are , You STAND A CHANCE to be noticed and acknowledged.

So before we dive deep into the BLOG OUTLINE,let me clear the Most Popular Myths people have.

“Creativity is for Artists like Painters, Sculptors, Writers, Theatre artists etc.”

Please remove the above notion and hold onto the belief that, ”EVERYONE IS A BORN GENIUS.”

No drooling saliva or the eyeballs popping up,its 200 percent true.YOU AND I have the AUDACITY to CLAIM CREATIVE POWER and BRING IT OUT TO THE WORLD.

But then what holds us back?

Two Things I would say:

1.FEAR: Fear of being mocked, made fun and joked about

2.PROCRASTINATION: I shall do this tomorrow onwards attitude.

Experts quote that the above two ingredients have killed many budding Artists before they put their Art into the World.

Having acknowledged the above fears, today’s post will help you to Embrace Creativity On a Daily Basis.

“Creativity Comes From Being Pre-Crative.”

– James Altucher

What is Pre-Crative?

Exercising The Creative Muscle On a Regular Basis is called Pre-Crative.

What happens, when you don’t hit the gym for say 15 days?

Muscles shrink Fast.

The same applies to Creativity. When you dont exercise, the creative muscle ATROPHIES.

If you dont use it on a daily basis,it will go away within weeks.(James Altucher Excerpt)

“Inspiration is for Amateurs.”

-Austin Kleon –

Many people think, today I am less motivated,I had a bad day,I had a mood swing so I am in no mood to Create my Craft.

This is by far the attitude of a Amateur and not that of a Pro.

You get and become CREATIVE by flexing the Creative Muscle and not wallow in pity.

Let me share with you a Creative Process of Maya Angelou,She is whom I look upto as a Creative Genius.

Here’s how she described her writing habits in 1983 interview with Claudia Tate (as covered in Mason Currey’s book Daily Rituals),

“I usually get up at about 5:30, and I’m ready to have coffee by 6, usually with my husband. He goes off to his work around 6:30, and I go off to mine. I keep a hotel room in which I do my work—a tiny, mean room with just a bed, and sometimes if I can find it, a face basin. I keep a dictionary, a Bible, a deck of cards and a bottle of sherry in the room. I try to get there around 7, and I work until 2 in the afternoon. If the work is going badly, I stay until 12:30. If it’s going well, I’ll stay as long as it’s going well. It’s lonely, and it’s marvelous. I edit while I’m working. When I come home at 2, I read over what I’ve written that day, and then try to put it out of my mind. I shower, prepare dinner so that when my husband comes home, I’m not totally absorbed in my work. We have a semblance of a normal life. We have a drink together and have dinner. Maybe after dinner, I’ll read to him what I’ve written that day. He doesn’t comment. I don’t invite comments from anyone but my editor, but hearing it aloud is good. Sometimes I hear the dissonance; then I try to straighten it out in the morning.”

Perfect example of a SYSTEM that she follows, that has led her to the Most Renowned Creative Artists till date.

Inspired and Motivated?

Lets see some actionable steps how to inculcate the same starting from today.

So Now Comes the Question How to begin with this?

Lets Apply the Following Rules to Get yourself started:

P S:They were followed by Pablo Picasso,Leonardo Da Vinci,Beethoven and all World Class and Noble Prize Winners:

Rule 1: Go and Collect Material

Find your topic of interest, which breeds your creativity.Go out to google,or buy books authored in your subject and read.

Jot down the inspirations or copy them out in a folder.Austin Kleon quotes “Steal like an Artist.”

Daily devote time to procure material on your topic.Read and read.

Rule 2: Go and Create Your Own Version

Science shows that once you read different ideas, your brain is rewired and stimulated to produce YOUR VERSION OF IDEAS.

It usually happens immediately you spent time in ruminating all that you have read. Now,quickly grab a notepad and write down, doodle, draw and craft your version of content.

Do it ASAP.

The above Method is known as “Authentic Swing” quoted by Steven Pressfield in his Book War of Art(Highly recommend)

Rule 3: Create on a Schedule

“Amateurs create when they feel inspired. Professionals create on a schedule.”

Like Maya Angelou and many others, go and Create a System and follow.A Ritual.( A blog post coming tomorrow on this )

Rule 4: Practice Self-Compassion

Everyone struggles to create a great art. Its okay, You show up daily and the Creative Genius will Show up within you in no time.

Never and ever give up on yourself as an Artist.

Your duty is to LOVE YOUR CRAFT and KEEP CREATING WITHOUT SEEKING VALIDATION(Print this and stick it up in your AMYGDALA)

Rule 5: Share Your Work

“Sometimes sharing your work means you have to deal with haters and critics. But more often than not, the only thing that happens is that you rally the people who believe the same things you believe, are excited about the same things you are excited about, or who support the work that you believe in.”

-James Clear

Share your Work , accept feedback and improve, ignore the haters, there are going to be many.

Don’t allow them to deter your belief.

So Folks, above are the 5 Golden Postulates you can put into practice and revamp your Creative muscle.

Would love to hear you in comments.
